Is Porn For Women Becoming Mainstream?

You know that porn for women has become main stream when Oprah Winfrey covers the topic. It has been reported that Americans spend up to 10 billion dollars a year on porn and apparently men aren’t the only ones contributing to this total. According to Oprah, 1 in 3 consumers of online porn in the United States is a woman.

To get the “skinny” on this growing trend, Oprah sent reporter Lisa Ling to investigate adult film sets and to speak to industry insiders. What Lisa found was an actual shift in the way porn is being created today with films being produced specifically by women for women. One of the people Lisa spoke to was Steve Hirsch who is the CEO of Vivid Entertainment, the world’s largest adult film studio Shibuya Kaho . He claims that 30 to 40 percent of the porn market are women. His studios began playing to that market by creating films that have more foreplay and story lines which seem to appeal more to women.

Oprah herself sat down with Jenna Jameson, one of the most famous porn stars to date, for some one on one talk about the porn industry. Jenna has starred in over 100 adults films and one of her titles is the bestselling adult DVD of all time. Her book “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale” spent weeks on the New York Times best seller list. During her tour to promote the book, Jenna says she began to notice more and more of the members in the audience were women and that they used her book as an opportunity to open up and talk about the details of their sex lives. When Oprah asks how Jenna will explain her adult film career to her sons one day, Jenna replies that she isn’t sure what she’ll say, but wants them to know how much she loves them.

Pornography has become a huge global trend as the internet becomes more common in every home. Young boys are taught from a very young age what constitutes sexy and young girls are taught if they look in a certain way men will perceive that as sexy. How girls are supposed to dress and act is filled with this demand. This is the essence of pornography; a behavior taught by the popular culture and deemed as something normal by society.

When we turn off this female image of what constitutes sexy and turn on the reality we find out the average woman does not look anything like this portage of a woman by the popular culture. Most girls do not look anything like a porn star, and why should they? Pornography is essentially just hair extensions, camera angles, silicone, and someone who has lost their way in life. On the other site is the paying customer who watching on a screen without telling their spouse. It does not sound right, does it?

When people use pornography without the knowledge of their partner it is a form of emotional infidelity. How does it make your partner feel? If it makes them feel hurt or ugly, and not wanted by their spouse then it is a form of emotional betrayal. This kind of behavior, either done in secret or in way that makes the other feel hurt, is a danger to the relationship.

If you are in a relationship and use pornography in a way that gives sexual satisfaction then it is harmful to you and your relationship. You should not be receiving sexual satisfaction from any other that your partner. You have to take a hard look at yourself and ask yourself if you have a problem and why you do it because it is a form of emotional infidelity. Sex is something you should only share with your spouse because most likely it makes your spouse feel rejected when you turn away from them.
